OSCAR TRAYNOR CUP
MITCHELS Avenue’s David Hennessy has been appointed the new manager of the Kerry Oscar Traynor Cup team.
The Tralee man is in a great position for the new role as he has been goalkeeper for the side for several years and is working wonders as manager of the Mitchels Avenue team in the KDL.
Kerry have never won this National competition but they reached the final some years back losing to Dublin AUL and Hennessy was the Kerry goalkeeper on that side.
Hennessy has changed his role in his clubs team in recent season’s giving up goalkeeping duties to play at centre back where he is excelling.
His task now it to put his squad together and begin preparations for the competition which will kick off in a couple of weeks.
He takes over from John O’Regan who has been manager of the team for a number of year’s and his squad selection will be vetted with great interest by soccer fans around the county.
The Oscar Traynor Cup is a competition that Kerry are well capable of winning if they make the proper preparations and get a squad together that will give full commitment.
The new manager begins work this week and he is looking forward to the challenge ahead.
Everyone involved in the game around the county wish him the very best of luck in his new post.
