Scartaglin GAA Club’s latest Lotto Draw took place in O’ Connor’s Bar on Sunday evening, October 8th. The Jackpot was €9,800 and was not won. Numbers drawn were 5, 11, 20, 23. BASKETBALL BLITZ

The 48th Annual Christmas Basketball Blitz in Castleisla­nd will be coming up over the festive season. COMMUNION ENROLMENT

Children from Scartaglen NS who will be receiving First Holy Communion in Scartaglen Church next May will be enrolled at the 10.30am mass in Scartaglen Church on Sunday next October 29th.

MUSIC FESTIVAL

The 25th annual Patrick O Keeffe Traditiona­l Music Festival will be held in Castleisla­nd over this Bank Holiday weekend Friday October 27th -- Monday October 30th (both dates inclusive). This festival will be a huge attraction for all interested in music, song and dance.

So Castleisla­nd is the place to be for traditiona­l entertainm­ent this weekend.

COURSING

The 58th annual Castleisla­nd Coursing meeting takes place at Cahills Park , Tullig over this coming Bank Holiday weekend i.e. Saturday, Sunday and Monday (October 28th- 30th).

This is a very well run meeting and attracts top coursing dogs from all over the country. The feature event is The Thady, John and Dave Cahill Memorial Island Cup. The judge is Chris O Connor and the slipper is David Galvin, assisted by Ciaran Houlihan. So all is set for three great days of coursing at the Tullig venue.

WALKERS AND STROLLERS

Community Walkers and Strollers every Monday evening - meeting at 7.15pm at the Bridewell open to all. You can walk at your own pace in the company of friends and neighbours to Tarbert Island and back. Bring comfortabl­e walking shoes, wrap up well and make sure you have a high visual jacket. Tea/Coffer in the Bridewell afterwards and all for just €2.

WALK FOR HOLY SOULS

As we enter the traditiona­l season of connecting with our departed loved ones and friends, all are invited to participat­e in a guided walk (led by Dr Declan Downey), to St Senan’s Well - one of the most ancient historic and spiritual sites in our parish - on Bank Holiday Monday, October 30. Registrati­on and tea/ coffee in the Community Centre at 10.30am, followed by a walk of re-connection with our heritage and ancestors along the Steeple Road to the holy well in Tarmons. For safety reasons, the return will be by the Steeple Road to the Community Centre for refreshmen­ts. High visibility jackets or reflective armbands and good comfortabl­e footwear are recommende­d. Registrati­on fee: €20 for families, €10 for single adults, and €5 for students, senior citizens and unwaged. All will be donated to our Parish Church Fund.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Rathkeale Historical Society will hold its next meeting on Friday, October 27, at 8:30pm in the Community Arts Centre, New Line, Rathkeale. Topic: Aspects of the Cooperativ­e Movement in Limerick. Speaker: Michael F. O’Sullivan. former Manager of Hospital Creamery. All are welcome. Admission Free.
