Abbeydorney Ladies’ Football. Our under-14 girls recorded an historic victory in the north Kerry under-14 A championship final in Tom Healy park Abbeydorney on Wednesday evening last in an outstanding game of football. Fantastic movement, excellent defending and some spectacular scores from both sides in this nail biting encounter. The sides had finished deadlocked after extra time in Ballymacelligot on Sunday the 15th and the replay fixedfor the following Thursday in Caherslee didn’t go ahead due to Storm Brian.

On Wednesday last in near perfect conditions for this time of the year Ballymacelligot registered the opening points but Abbeydorney settledand dominated the remainder of the half to lead at the break by nine points thanks to well taken goals with Amy O’Sullivan notching two andon apiece from Chloe Casey, Melanie Higgins and Allanah Stretch and intruth they could and should have been much further ahead such wastheir dominance throughout the field. The girls dominated for the opening period of the second half and responded to each of Ballymacelligot’s raids. However, mid way throughthe Ballymac girls slipped through for goals to narrow the gap butagain the girls responded with an excellent goal from Amy O’Sullivan and an brilliantly struck Melanie Higgins penalty to counter Ballymac’s one mid way through the half. When the final whistle sounded the Abbeydorney celebrations were short lived as the referee deemed that the sides had finished all square. Ballymac opened up a 1-1 lead in the opening period a lead they still held with only three minutes of the second period remaining bit Rebecca Falvey careered through and sent a pile driver to the Ballymac net to leave the minimum between the sides. Ahah Relihan now operating at mid field landed the equaliser to send the game into the second period of extra time. Abbeydorney dominated the opening five minutes but registered five wides and the sides were still deadlocked with one minute of this marathon encounter remaining. next draw will be held on November 2 in Patcheens.
