UNDER 16 GIRLS: Ballymac 2-10 John Mitchell’s 1-4

The Ballymac U16 girls finished up their season last Wed night with a well deserved victory over John Mitchell’s in the Tralee Town Board Sheild final . Following the defeat to Abbeydorney after extra time in the NK League final the girls were very determined to make amends in this game & from the beginning they set about the task with great gusto . 5 star performances from goalie Robyn White & Eve Creedon for the hour were key to the win . Aisling O Connell , Niamh Rahilly . Aine Rice , Maeve O Sullivan & Caoimhe Carroll contributed handsomely to the performance also .

The first half was quite competitive but some fine saves from Robyn & brave defending from Mitchell’s meant we only led by 2 at the break 4pt to 2pt’s despite having the better of the chances . Caoimhe Carroll , Emily O Donoghue , Lisa Curran & Aine Rice providing the scores for Ballymac .

The 2nd half was a different story once Eve Creedon ( who notched 1-3 from midfield) raced through the middle to shoot the ball to the Mitchell’s net after 2 minutes , Kate O Connor & Eve added further scores & we proceeded to dominate the 2nd half . Mitchell’s in a rare purple patch kicked 1-1 but from the next attack Lisa Curran found the net to eliminate any doubt about the result . A well deserved win for this group & a great team performance from 1 to 18 . Captain Aine Rice received the shield from ref John Ross & she proceeded to give her acceptance speech as Gaeilge ! Maith u Aine Team : Robyn White , Maeve O Sullivan , Niamh Rahilly , Sinead Mc Kewon , Roisin Long , Caoimhe Carroll , Sophie O Donoghue , Aisling O Connell , Eve Creedon ( 1-3) , Emily O Brien , Aine Rice (0-1) Cait Rice , Lisa Curran (1-2) Emily O Donoghue (0-2) Lorna Daly . Subs : Kate O Connor (0-1), Holly Geary , Cora Savage UNDER 14 GIRLS - The club’s under 14 ladies met Na Gaeil in the Tralee Town League Division 1 final in Na Gaeil on Sunday last and came out deserving winners after a nervy finish with a goal separating the sides at the final whistle. The final score was 0-9 to 1-9 in favour of our girls after a nip and tuck battle all time way. Na Gaeil dominated possession in the first half of the game but couldn’t convert their chances , missing two penalties , one in the first and and one in the second half. Our goalie Lorna Daly showed huge courage on both occasions saving and clearing her lines to great effect. At the other end especially in the first half, we took our chances leading at halftime 1-6 to 0-5. Captain Cora Savage got on the scoreboard on five occasions, two frees with Mary Ann Fleming getting the other point. Mid way though the first half we lost our full forward Emily O Donoghue though injury and in the process a huge scoring threat . In her place Eimear Curran came on , and was outstanding, getting our final score in the half a great goal, stealing inside her marker and finishing with aplomb to the back of the net giving the goalie no chance. This put the girls four points to the good at halftime . The second-half was very evenly contested with both sides missing chances. With the two Roisins, Long and Rahilly driving them on from defence we kept Na Gaeil to four points only scoring three ourselves two from Cora and one from Eimear Curran. The girls deserve great praise for keeping going to the end, especially after having had a couple of tough games the last few weeks. Today was their day to be rewarded for all their work throughout the season. As mentioned Lorna in goals was excellent, in the backs the two Roisins, Sophie O Donoghue and Holly Geary led the way, along with Emily in midfield and upfront Cora Savage, Mary Ann Fleming and Eimear Curran came out best on the day. The cup was presented to captain Cora Savage by ref Tadhg Murphy after the game , who himself had a fine game. Team; Lorna Daly, Sophie O Donoghue, Roisin Long, Grainne Galvin, Aoife Galvin, Holly Geary, Sinead Mc Keown, Alyssa Leen, Cora Savage(c), Mary Ann Fleming, Ciara Palmer, Emily O Donoghue, Kate O Connor.
