The Kerryman (North Kerry)

Rathmore pile on the goals to take 6/8-Teacher title

6/8-TEACHER FINAL

THE standard of football played in this game was of an extremely high standard. The physically stronger Rathmore boys played with the wind in the opening half but it was their North Kerry opponents who played excellent attacking football. Impressive midfielder Cormac Dillon scored his sides opening goal following a fine movement he added two points to extend the lead. Rathmore responded with a goal from Fionn Murphy and points from Conor Cronin and Ross Moriarty.

Scoil Bhríde Duagh upped their performance again and young Joseph Maher was at the end of a flowing move to slot home goal number two.

Cormac Dillon raised another green flag while Mikey Kelly split the posts with a fine point. Sensing that they were losing their way in this final the Rathmore mentors made some astute changes as we approached the break and they paid rich dividends as Ciarán Collins now operating at full forward scored two fine goals. Fionn Murphy pointed from a free and Darragh Nagle found his range with two well struck points to give his side a 3-5 to 3-3 half time lead.

The physically stronger Rathmore squad dominated for long periods during the second half to claim the title following a tremendous game of football on a final score line of Rathmore 8-8 Duagh 3-6.

A score line which scarcely reflects the contribution of the Duagh outfit, Cormac Dillon from play and a well struck 45 and a peach from of a point from Darragh O’Keeffe registered their second half scores while Jake Heffernan, Tara Galvin, Luke Sheridan and Joseph O’Connell also impressed.

Daniel Sheehan, Daniel Dineen, Pádraig Moynihan, Fionn Murphy, Ciarán Collins, Darrgh Nagle, Conor Cronin and Ross Moriarty were all in top form for the winners.
