Kerry honours Ó Sé brothers’ football legacy
OVER 700 ATTEND STAR-STUDDED TRIBUTE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR GAA CLUB AND HOSPICE
A CROWD of some 700 people gathered at the INEC, Killarney, on Friday night, to pay tribute to the famous Ó Sé brothers of An Ghaeltacht and Kerry footballing fame, with the likes of Eamon Fitzmaurice, Mick O’Dwyer, Joe Brolly, Mick Galwey, and many more from Kerry and beyond in attendance to tip their caps to one of the GAA’s most famous families.
A fund-raiser for their club, there were presentations and interviews with the brothers on the night, and An Ghaeltacht Chairperson Seán Ó Catháin – who was also a primary school principal to the brothers – was hugely pleased with the success of the entire event and what it will help his west Kerry club achieve.
“€3,000 will go to the Kerry Hospice Foundation, but every other penny will go to our club,” Seán said. “That’s the way the lads would have wanted it too.
“There were a couple of presentations to them and the four brothers were quizzed on their footballing experiences. We’re not sure yet how much has been raised for the club, but it will help us as we get our second pitch up and running ahead of the 2019 Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta, on what will be the 50th anniversary of the All-Ireland competition.”
Seán explained that the idea came from Dara Ó Cinnéide originally, and Dara was subsequently heavily involved in the organisation process.
Seán also acknowledged RTÉ’s Eamon Horan – who was on hand to emcee the evening’s proceedings – and the evening’s events made way for a night of terrific fun.
“There’s great credit due to everyone who made it the great night it was, and there was plenty dancing and craic had into the early hours of the morning,” he added.
