WEST KERRY MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Castlegregory 4-11 Dingle 3-12
CASTLEGREGORY are the new West Kerry Minor champions after defeating Dingle by two points in the final in Lios Póil.
Castlegregory playing against the wind were first to score with a Patrick O’Donohue point from play. Dingle responded with a Ruadhan McCarthy goal shortly after. Patrick O’Donohue kicked another point from play for Castlegregory before Dean Hilliard scored Dingle’s second goal just before the first quarter mark. After 15 minutes the score was Dingle 2-0 Castlegregory 0-2.
Points from play from Thomas Devane and Luke O’Connell kept the scoreboard ticking over for Dingle. Castlegregory responded with a Jimmy O’Grady goal to keep them in the game.
Dylan Geaney kicked a point from a free kick for Dingle and Castlegregory responded with a Jimmy O’Grady point from play. Dingle added to their tally with points from play from Chris Kane with two, Thomas Devane, Niall Geaney and Dylan Geaney with one each before Ruadhan McCarthy scored his second goal and gave Dingle a commanding lead.
Castlegregory rallied and brought the game to Dingle and a Jimmy O’Grady goal from the penalty spot kept them in the game. Just before half time Deividas Uosis kicked a point from a free kick for Dingle and when referee Donal Casey blew the halftime whistle Dingle led 3-9 to 2-3.
A Jimmy O’Grady point from a free kick opened the scoring for Castlegregory after the restart and this was followed by a Brendan Walsh point from play. Luke O’Connell kicked a point from play for Dingle shortly after.
Castlegregory responded with a point from play from William Goodwin and a Patrick O’Donohue goal to leave them four behind.
After 45 minutes Castlegregory had closed the gap to four points, 3-10 to 3-6.
Castlegregory with points from play from Jimmy O’Grady, William Goodwin, Mikey Lyne and two Jimmy O’Grady points from free kicks went into a one point lead. A Dylan Geaney point from a free kick levelled the game, but Castlegregory responded with another Patrick O’Donohue goal to put them ahead by three with time nearly up.
Another Dylan Geaney point from a free kick for Dingle made it a two-point game, but the Castlegregory defence held firm and do what was barely conceivable at half-time, win this game and lift the title.
Cathaoirleach Bord Chiarraí Thiar Muiris Ó Fiannachta presented the Shield to Castlegregory captain Jimmy O’Grady and Rúnaí Derry Ó Murchú presented the Strand House Man of the Match Award to Castlegregory’s Patrick O’Donohue.
