BALLYDONOGHUE

-

CLUB LOTTO: Next week’s draw is the CHRISTMAS DRAW: Bumper Christmas Draw on Friday December 15th at The Thatch. RESULTS: North Kerry Senior Championship Final. Ballydonoghue 1-13. Ballyduff 1-4. Historic occasion in Listowel on Sunday last as Ballydonoghue put back to back N.K championships together last achieved by a Ballydonoghue team in 1949,1950.

We were slow to get into the game and Ballyduff had the better of the earlier exchanges and led three point to one after 15mins. We started to find our rhythm in the second quarter as we came more into the game. Then twenty minutes in a turning point in the game as Martin O’Mahony was red carded and we were down to fourteen players. But as so often happens this seemed to spur on our players as to a man they upped their performance another gear. Taking the game to Ballyduff now, driving at their defence at every opportunity Paul Kennelly made it two point apiece on twenty three minutes. Tommy Kennelly won the resulting kick out and laid off a lovely ball to Darragh Sheehy who raced through on goal and blasted to the bottom left hand corner just inside the post to give the Ballyduff goal keeper no chance. Anyone who arrived after that goal would have thought it was Ballydonoghue that had the extra man. We kicked two more points before the half time break to go in five points ahead. Ballydonoghue 1-5. Ballyduff 0-3. There was no let up for Ballyduff in the second half as we dominated from start to finish and when Tommy Kennelly scored a wonderful point from a dead ball position 20m out, just inside the sideline on the stand side after five minutes, it was one way traffic from there. Ballyduff only added two more points to their first half tally until five minutes from time they did manage a consolation goal. But the game was well and truly over by then. Final score Ballydonoghue 1-13. Ballyduff 1-4. A great achievement by all concerned.

Paul Kennelly was presented with the Eamon O’Donoghue Memorial cup and Darragh Sheehy deservedly won the man of the match award.
