Killarney take top spot from Tralee

MUNSTER UNDER 16 CONFERENCE 2

Killarney 12 Tralee 7

KILLARNEY travelled to Tralee for a match that would determine who would take the top spot in the conference.

Killarney played with the wind in the first half and started very strongly. They scored a try after six minutes from captain Craig Mckenzie Vass after excellent forward play and the conversion was duly slotted over by Donnacha Grealy.

After 20 minutes an excellent counter rucking move, and quick off load saw Gary Randles go over in the corner for a Killarney try. The second half was a very different affair with Tralee attacking constantly and were rewarded with a try from Kian Regan which was converted by Seamus Lyne to leave the score at 12 points to seven.

The final 20 minutes of the game were very exciting. The game finished up with Tralee camped on the Killarney 22, but Killarney showed excellent defence to prevent them from scoring.

Best for Killarney were Craig McKenzie Vass, Matt McAulliffe, Brendy O’Donoghue at hooker, and Odeniz Koyun at prop,

Abbeyfeale 22 Listowel 7

LISTOWEL lost to Abbeyfeale in bitterly cold conditions on Sunday morning.

Abbeyfeale dominated the first half, scoring three tries and they took a deserved 17-0 lead into the half time break. Shane Healy of Listowel, although slight in stature, made a ferocious tackle to prevent a certain Abbeyfeale try on the stroke of half-time.

Listowel dominated the forward exchanges in the second half without creating many scoring chances. Young forwards, Jerome O’Rourke and Liam Quilter had big carries and were their best players on the day.

Shaun Hunt was also very prominent. Listowel conceded another try from a kick-chase, but lifted themselves to score a deserved try from captain Cale Sweeney, who crashed over from close range after Kian Dowling was stopped just short of the Abbeyfeale line. Ethan O’Connor converted to leave the final score 22-7.

With just one game remaining Killarney are on 20 points, Tralee on 20 points, Castleisland on 12 points, Listowel on eight points, and Killorglin on four points.
