Dromid rally to see off Waterville

THIS game was played in tricky conditions in Con Keating Park, Cahersiveen on Sunday last.
Aided by the breeze Paddy Curran drew first blood for Waterville with a point from play. Chris Farrelly pointed from a free for Dromid to level matters. Barry O’Dwyer in the 10th minute hit a cracking goal to put his team in control.
Dilan O’Donoghue and Alan O’Shea exchanged points to leave the score 1-2 to 0-2 points in favour of the lakesiders at the 10 minute stage.
Busy corner-forward Niall O’Shea swung over a beauty with the left from play, but Stephen O’Dwyer replied for Waterville with a sweet point from play.
Barry O’Dwyer hit two points one free and one from play to copper-fasten Waterville’s supremacy by the 23rd minute at 1-5 to 0-3 points. But Dromid had other ideas and launched a great rally driven from the back by an improving Dominic O’Sullivan.
Chris Farrelly landed three points, two frees and one from play to leave Dromid just two points in arrears at half-time with wind advantage to come. The half-time score was Waterville 1-5 Dromid 0-6.
The second half commenced with Niall O’Shea and Keelan Farrelly pick off two points from play for the Inny Valley boys. Dromid had by now taken a major grip of the game.
Thomas Curran shot them a point ahead only for Cormac O’Sullivan to tie it up again for Waterville, but amazingly this was to be their last score. The game was really in the melting pot with Paul Hayes keeping a firm grip on proceedings.
Thomas Curran landed his second point from play a lead they were not to relinquish. Waterville tried hard to get back on level terms, but Dromid were able to soak it all up and in an injury time burst up field Dromid’s Gearoid Jackie O’Sullivan made no mistake to leave it 0-11 to 1-6 at full-time.
