RATHMORE BAR OFFERING FREE FOOD TO THOSE IN NEED THIS CHRISTMAS

- By FERGUS DENNEHY

A RATHMORE bar has doubled up on its generosity from last year and is again preparing to donate free lunches and dinners to all those struggling at Christmas.

It’s the second year running that the staff of Connie K’s bar have undertaken the compassionate act; they are inviting the homeless, the elderly and all those who may be struggling financially, to collect their free Christmas lunches and dinners from the bar on either December 24 and December 25 – all in the strictest of confidence.

Organiser and barman Jeff Gordon says that after seeing the success of the campaign last year, it would have been cruel not to run it again this year.

“After seeing the number of families and people that availed of the service last, my conscience took over and I couldn’t not do it,” said Jeff, talking to The Kerryman on Monday.

“Last year we had 72 dinners delivered out to families and we had 14 people here in the bar with us on Christmas Day itself; this year already then, I have six orders from my own area here in Rathmore, eight orders from Listowel and a few more orders in Killarney as well,” he continued.

Jeff says that people can register their interest in a meal by calling him on 0879534944 or by calling into the bar.

“They can take their meals away with them on the day and eat them at home and parents can take them home to their kids, this way the kids need not know that the parents may be struggling.

If people want, we will be opening the bar on Christmas Day again, for people to come in and enjoy a peaceful dinner either at a communal table or in their own section of the bar.”

“No-one will be turned away, we will do our best to facilitate everybody that we can,” he finished.

Strict confidentiality for all those availing of the service is completely assured.
