Duagh to mark the twelfth year of annual Stephen’s Day walk

-

ONE of the county’s great annual fundraisers is on course to well exceed the €80,000 mark in its campaign for Our Lady’s Hospital of Sick Children, Crumlin.

The Duagh St Stephen’s Day walk/run sets off on its twelfth year this coming December 26, in an event that just seems to be getting more and more popular.

To date it has raised roughly €80,000 with this next instalment set to well exceed the figure - especially if last year was anything to go by.

“Last year was the biggest turn out for the event with an increase in the amount of runners taking part,” organiser Mike Carmody said. “It’s up to people themselves how fast or slow they want to do the course. You can make a leisurely walk of it and take in the scenery on the way.”

Or you can go hell for leather and try to break your previous Duagh record - it’s entirely up to you.

Refreshments will be provided after the event, with the fun moving to O’Brien’s bar on the night with music, raffles and spot prizes all in the mix as well as finger food.

As ever, the event sets off from 11.30am following a ten-kilometre route along the scenic local roads in a perfect opportunity to ‘de-bloat’ after the excesses of the Christmas dining table.

All organisers ask is that participants would make a donation to the cause in accordance with their circumstances and that they simply enjoy the whole day to the max.
