Geaney: every year I say Kerry will win All-Ireland

- BY PAUL BRENNAN

KERRY’S only All Star in 2017, Paul Geaney, is adamant that Kerry is going to win the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship in 2018. Surprised at such a refreshingly open statement of intent from a football? Don’t be – Geaney believes every year that he and Kerry are going to lift the Sam Maguire Cup.

Speaking at the launch of the GAA Super Games Centre in partnership with Sky Sports, for which he is an ambassador, Geaney was reflecting on the year that was and looking forward to the 2018 season, for which he is excited about Kerry’s chances of success.

“Is Kerry far away from it? Not at all. I don’t think any of the top three are, top four, maybe, depending on what strides are made in the coming year. I think they are closely grouped together, obviously with Dublin out in front at the moment, with a grip at the moment, but once that grip starts to loosen you never know.

“Every year I come back I’m extremely confident. I say it outright that we’re going to win the All-Ireland this year. It’s my complete belief every year I’ve been involved that we’re going to win the All-Ireland. Unfortunately, we’ve only done it once since I’ve been a Kerry player, but it’s exciting. Whatever I did last year is history now as well and I’ve to better it this year. I’ve definitely to better it to keep my place in the team because the youth that is coming is exciting and if they live up to the promise, and I’m sure they will, I’ll be shoved out the door.”
