Bryan Cooper urging young and old to attend GOAL Miles

-

TRALEE native and renowned jockey, Bryan Cooper, is encouraging young and old people right across Kerry to get out and take part in one of five GOAL Miles taking place across the county this Christmas and New Year period.

The Miles will once again offer people an opportunity to exercise, have fun and help raise money and awareness for some of GOAL’s most vital programmes in the developing world.

Now in its 36th year, the GOAL Miles regularly attract tens of thousands of participants each year. People run, jog or walk a Mile in villages, towns and cities the length and breadth of Ireland.

More than 130 Miles will be held across the country over the festive period, confirming the ever-growing popularity of the event.

Cooper is encouraging families to make an extra special effort this year to ensure their children take part in their local Mile event.

“Anyone, no matter their age or fitness level, can take part in a GOAL Mile, but the individual events become very special when lots of children participate,” he said. “Not only are young boys and girls exercising and having fun, but they are also learning about - and helping - children in other parts of the world who may be suffering because of hunger, disease or conflict.”

Dennis Brosnan, organiser of the Mile at Castleisland’s Riocht track, said: “I want to encourage everyone in the region to come out and join in the GOAL Mile fun over Christmas. Whether you are young or old, and no matter your level of fitness, it’s a great way to get some exercise over the festive season and help raise some money for GOAL’s programmes overseas. You can run, jog or walk the Mile – the choice is up to you. There is no need to register, just turn up on the day and donate what you can.”

Miles will be held at five locations in Kerry on Christmas Day: Castleisland Athletic Track from 10:30am-12:30pm; The Dragon’s Den Intermediate School, Killorglin from 10:30am-12:30pm; at Deenagh Lodge, Killarney from 10am-12:30pm; at South Kerry Sports Centre, Cahersiveen from 10-11am; at Faungorth Activity Centre, Kenmare from 10am12pm.
