Gneeveguilla and Crokes to meet in U21 final

U-21 A CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS
THE East Kerry Under-21 A Championship got under way at the weekend with two semi-finals. On Friday night, the first semi final saw Dr Crokes host Spa under lights at Lewis Road. Spa lead by three points at the break, 0-7 to 0-4, but three second half goals for Dr Crokes, from Jordan Kiely, Micheal Burns and Brendan Coppinger, gave the home side a comfortable 3-11 to 0-11 victory.
The second semi-final, between Gneeveguilla and Rathmore was played on Saturday afternoon in Gneeveguilla. The meeting of these two neighbours is always one to look forward to and this game was no exception.
Gneeveguilla opened the scoring in first minute through Jamie Brosnan. Shane Ryan immediately replied with an equaliser. The teams exchanged points Pa Warren (Gneeveguilla) and Mark Ryan (Rathmore). Rathmore had the better of the with scores from Brian Friel, Shane Ryan and Dean Fitzgerald while scores from Gneeveguilla John O’Leary, Mike Brosnan and Con Buckley left the score at half time Rathmore 0-10 Gneeveguilla 0-6.
Gneeveguilla started the second half on fire with three goals in the space of five minutes - Conlin O’Leary with first goal, Con Buckley with second from the penalty spot and Mike Brosnan finishing off a superb team move for third goal. Rathmore battled back with scores from Dean Fitzgerald and 3 frees. However, scores from the impressive Pa Warren, Kevin Coughlin and Conlin O’Leary ensured Gneeveguilla held on for a 3-10 to 0-14 win.
The Final, Dr Crokes V Gneeveguilla, is fixed for Saturday (23 December) at 2pm at a neutral enue to be confirmed.
Referees Committee Transition Year Students Young Whistlers Course
ST Brendan’s College Transition Year students have completed a Young Whistlers course. The aim is to promote and develop young referees in the East Kerry Board to cover all U-8/U-10 Go Games blitzes and club challenge games during 2018. It is vital that all clubs use the players listed to support the development of refs in the division.
Some students may progress to referee U-11/U-12 games through Coiste na nÓg run referees courses. These young referees and their clubs are:

East Kerry All Star Awards 2017
THE recipients of the 2017 East Kerry All StarAwards, sponsored by The Kerryman and the Aquila Club Gleneagle Hotel, will be revealed at a Gala Banquet at the Gleneagle Hotel on Friday, January 12.
The recipients of the East Kerry All Star Awards are chosen based on players performances in the East Kerry Senior Championship, the Dr O’Donoghue Cup, kindly sponsored jointly by the Aquila Club and Dr O’Donoghue’s family.
A short list of nominees will be revealed in The Kerryman of Wednesday, January 10.
The East Kerry Hall of Fame Award and the Person of the Year Award will also be presented at the Gala Banquet, on January 12.
