No regrets about Nemo defeat insists O’Callaghan after Crokes’ latest triumph

- BY TIMMY SHEEHAN

THE Munster final defeat must have been disappointing, but, no excuses whatsoever from Dr Crokes selector Niall O’Callaghan in terms of their inadequacies on the day.

On a brighter note he reflected on what was another wonderful season for the club, and, with such a flow of young talent coming through, the future looks every bit as bright.

“We got it totally wrong going in against Nemo, we have no regrets about that, we were wrong the way we laid out the team, the way we played. Nemo, in fairness to them, I am not going to take anything from their performance they got everything right and that’s about showing up on the day.

“We didn’t show up against Nemo, so, there’s no regrets. It’s a long year for our fellows and at the end of the day we went out, we got a team together, we got the game out of the way and we are delighted with the result, delighted with the performance.

“In a lot of the league this year we rested a few of the bigger names, the younger fellows stepped up, so, it’s more for those young fellows who are getting their first county league medal.

“I suppose the biggest thing you can take from today, we had some good performances, people like Eoin Brosnan, his performance there in the middle of the field today, to start and finish the game at his age, to put in a performance like he did sums up the man really, and then when you see the likes of Colm Cooper blocking down a ball in the last minute of the game.

“Colm is definitely coming back, Eoin, hopefully he will, as a player and a person around the club, we are delighted to have both. We have a great team, a fabulous bunch of young fellows, any club would be happy with what we won this year, and, we are happy with that as well.

“Probably the challenge going forward will be to get some of the younger fellows into the game, if they can step up to the next level, and, start pushing the senior players for their places, the key now is to kind of freshen it up a little bit going forward.

“We wish the Gaeltacht the very best next month, everybody involved in Dr Crokes will be supporting them.”
