McMahon scores 21 points in St Paul’s win

Murt Murphy (PRO) U-12 GIRLS DIVISION 1B Ballybunio­n Wildcats 16 St Paul’s Killarney 33

BALLYBUNIO­N Wildcats came up short against St Paul’s at home last week in the U-12 Girls Division 1B contest. The first quarter saw St Paul’s dominating this quarter with 10pts on the score sheet from Leah McMahon, and 4pts from Kayleigh Sheehy for Wildcats. In the second quarter again St Paul’s dominated on the score sheet with scores from Leah McMahon and Beth Healy and this saw St Paul’s move 18-4 clear.

The third quarter saw Wildcats dominate most of the play here with four points each from Kayleigh Sheehy and Nadine Allen. Wildcats actually won this quarter 7-4.

The final quarter saw Leah McMahon take over and she was unstoppabl­e as St Paul’s outscored Wildcats 11-5 with St Paul’s scoring another 10 points in this quarter and scores by Aisling Hennessy and Kayleigh Sheehy for Wildcats proved that the Ballybunio­n girls never gave up. Top scorer for Wildcats was Kayleigh Sheehy on 10 points top scorer for St Pauls was McMahon on 21 points.

U16 BOYS DIVISION 1

Bobcats 62 Killarney Cougars 63

THE Bobcats and Cougars served up a great game at the John Mitchels Sports Complex as Cougars came from behind with a huge last quarter to snatch the points. Bobcats led throughout and were in control thanks to twins Sean and Tim Pollman Daamen who were in top form to lead 18-15 at the end of the opening quarter and they increased the lead to 34-27 at half time with Cougars Harry Byrne, Sean O’Brien and Ruairi Murphy all scoring good basket’s to try keep Cougars in contention.

The Bobcats continued to dominate the third quarter and were further ahead 54-42 at the end of the third quarter.

A strong start to the final quarter looked to set the home side on the road to victory with Adam Kelly hitting some fine scores for the Bobcats, but Cougars ability to get three pointers from Tommy Bowler, Ruairi Murphy and the excellent Sean O’Brien hitting 11pts in the last quarter saw the Cougars hit the front in the closing stages and the Cougars just held on in the last minute. Bobcats missed opportunit­ies to take the points as Cougars took the win in a game that could have gone either way.

U16 GIRLS DIVISION 2

Killarney Cougars 39 St Annes 32

A FAST open game with a great opening quarter by Killarney Cougars set them up for victory against St Annes Farrenfore in Killarney.

Cougars were in top form and raced in to a big early lead 16-4 thanks to great play by Maeve Bellew and Adele O’Brien. St Annes had a much improved second quarter with Katie Brosnan scoring some fine individual baskets but they still trailed at the break 22-12.

The sides went basket for basket in the third quarter but a big push by St Annes in the final quarter had Cougars under pressure with Muireann Ring, Martha Fitzgerald all working hard to reduce the arrears but Cougars held on with a great last quarter by Holly Clifford who hit some great basket to ensure the win to kept Cougars in contention at the top of the League. The game’s top scorers for Cougars Maeve Bellew 18 pts, Holly Clifford 10 pts, and St Annes Katie Brosnan 15 pts.

BOYS U-14 TRIALS

THE Kerry U-14 boys trials are down to the final stage with the final trial for the U-14 Boys (born 2004) to be held on Saturday December 23 from 9.30am to 11am. Clubs have been advised of the selection for the final U-14 boys trial; please contact your club secretary for further details.

The Kerry U-13 Boys (born 2005) developmen­t squad trial will be held on Saturday, December 23 from 11am to 12.30pm.

Clubs need to pre register players born 2005 for this trial. The venue for both trials next Saturday is Rathmore.
