LAST JEDI STARS TELL OF LOVE FOR KINGDOM

- By SIMON BROUDER

IN the latest instalment of their Last Jedi related Wild Atlantic Way advertising blitzkrieg, Tourism Ireland have released a new clip in which the cast and crew of the latest Star Wars film gush about the beauty of Kerry’s coast.

The crew of the blockbuster science fiction film – which is already well on course to rake in at least a billion dollars worldwide – spent two days filming on Skellig Michael in 2015.

They returned to Kerry in May 2016 where they spent a week filming in and around a replica of the Skellig’s world famous monastery that was constructed at Ceann Síbeal.

In the new Tourism Ireland clip – which was made for the tourism promotion body by the filmmakers Disney Lucasfilm – franchise star Mark Hamill, who plays hermit Jedi Luke Skywalker – describes the Skelligs and west Kerry as being like something from a fairy tale.

“It’s like a fairy-tale world … you just can’t believe your eyes,” says Hamill. Last Jedi director Rian Johnson was equally enthusiastic.

“It’s a gorgeous place. I feel very, very lucky to be able to get it on film,” Johnson says in the behind the scene’s clip.

The clip also features new Star Wars hero Daisy Ridley who said Kerry had been “great” to the Star Wars team.

The clip – which contains a large amount of previously unseen footage from the film’s Skellig shoot in September 2015 – is the third phase of Tourism Ireland’s Last Jedi themed promotional campaign.

The campaign also saw a Wild Atlantic Way advertising poster, featuring Skellig Michael, sent into space.

You can find the new clip on the Discover Ireland YouTube page.
