Getting 2018 off on a healthy footing with Listowel Library
LISTOWEL Library and the local Park Run are leading the way to a healthier 2018 with a series of expert talks and events designed to get people excited about exercise and healthy lifestyles, and motivated to put the lessons into action.
The series is part of the Government’s Healthy Ireland initiative - the national strategy to improve health and well being which places a focus on prevention, individual awareness and keeping people healthy for longer. And it is our public libraries which are charged with delivering the Healthy Ireland at Your Library programme.
That programme begins in Listowel Library with a free talk to which all are welcome on Thursday, January 11 next. It is being run in conjunction with Parkrun Listowel and features an information evening.
“Come along and find out more on becoming healthy, active, improving your well-being and generally becoming fitter just in time for your New Year’s resolutions!” Barthy Flynn of the Library said. All are welcome and there is no need to book in advance.
Healthy Ireland has come about because of concerns that the current health status of people living in Ireland – including lifestyle trends and health inequalities – is leading us towards a future that is dangerously unhealthy and very likely unaffordable, amid issues such as obesity, mental health, smoking, alcohol and drugs.
