Horan family are lighting up lives for charity Barnardos

-

The increasing prevalence of Christmas lights being used for charitable purposes continues unabated.Barnardos is the latest charity to benefit from this kind of altruism and the Horan family of No. 31 Cahereens West is the latest to provide it.

This rapidly-disappearing Christmas, the Horan home is absolutely festooned with festive lighting of every colour, hue and shape you could imagine. The idea and initiative came from mom Joan, on the back of a long-standing wish to help Barnardos in particular. Joan is dedicating the effort to her late brother, Michael who passed away a few years ago at a young age and since then she wanted to do something to like this in his name.

“I have always like doing up the house at Christmas anyway so I thought that we’d do it for a charity this year and Michael’s memory and Barnardos clicked with me and we went from there,” said Joan.

Joan’s husband, Paul and daughter, Siobhan also got stuck into the project and untangled a couple of thousand feet of cables and tested several hundred bulbs. The Horans converted the post box on their front gate to a collection box and they’re hoping their Christmas Light Spectacular effort will be reflected in the generosity of the community at large and the display will be up until Saturday night at least.

Barnardos is a children’s charity which works with vulnerable children and their families in Ireland. It campaign for the rights of all children and it was established in Ireland in 1962.
