Pedalling for charity at Spin Street Killarney

-

KILLARNEY’S Spin Street was in top gear on St Stephen’s morning as over 60 people turned up to make sure some ‘pedal power’ would help raise money for The Peter McVerry Trust, which helps homeless people throughout Ireland. The sum of €1,514 was the final figure raised as two full classes enjoyed an entertaining morning while burning off some festive calories. The band of speedy pedallers were also joined by Kerry football stars, Johnny Buckley and Peter Crowley.

“We’re absolutely delighted with this money and the fact it will play a part in helping people who are homeless, which is such an emotive issue right now, is even more rewarding,” said Tom Crowley of Spin Street, Killarney.

The Spin Street concept is a hugely popular one in the US and is also a rapidly growing one here in Kerry with Spin Street ‘ boutique style’ studios now in Killorglin and Killarney. Basically, it’s a high-intensity, low-impact, full-body workout on a stationary bike, and Tom said trained supervisors are on hand to encourage and motivate clients.

“It’s becoming very popular with people as it’s a great way to get fit fast and lose weight. The classes are also great in that people form a real bond during their workouts, which was evident at our charity event. This is something I will be looking at doing again in the future as we’re very grateful to all those who came along on St Stephen’s morning to do their bit for charity,” said Tom.
