Blitzed: Basketball reigns in Castleisland
PREMIER MEN’S FINAL
Garvey’s Warriors 48 Scotts Lakers St. Pauls 41
THE highlight of the event was the Munster Joinery premier men’s final which was a local derby between Garvey’s Warriors and Scott’s Lakers. The teams tipped off in front of a packed house. Lakers were worth opponents and held the lead for the first half of the game.
Just before the interval Warriors Trae Pemberton sank a three and he opened the second half with two more to put Warriors ahead for the first time in the game. Lakers fought back and there was nothing in it up to the final minutes. Warriors gradually pulled away as the clock ran down and retained the title which had been their first big win last season.

DIVISION ONE MEN
St. Mary’s 34 KCYMS 30
ST. Mary’s took an early lead in the second last final of the evening but allowed KCYMS back into game. The home club led 22 points to 17 at the interval and held their lead throughout the second half. They home side led by seven with a minute and a half to go. Adam Donoghue increased this by one from the free through line.
A basket from Conor Flynn brought it back to five points and they added another with three seconds to go. KCYMS were in foul trouble and Daniel O’Shea made one from two at the line to secure the win. MVP: Adam Donoghue
DIVISION 2 MEN
St. Mary’s 28 St. Anne’s 19
THESE sides had met in the qualifying round of the competition when St. Mary’s secured a comfortable win. Conor O’Callaghan and Thomas Murphy were St. Anne’s main contributors for the game St. Mary’s led 21 points to eight at the interval thanks to some great scores from Frank O’Rahillly, Michael Broderick,Kevin Donoghue and MVP for the game Séan O’Connell.
St. Anne’s had a better second half saw John O’Rourke and Eamonn Sheehy add to their tally but the strength and speed of the St. Mary’s side ensured that they took the win by nine.

DIVISION 3 MEN LOCAL
The Mad Ones 11 Wild Cats 20
WILD cats were the strong ones here from the tip, they led by five at the interval. It took both sides some time to settle in the early part of the second half. Both sides exchanged sides but Wild cats increased their lead to nine as the clock ran down.

DIVISION 3 MEN A
The 86s 26 Castlemeats Barbarians 19
THIS was another all Castleisland affair.
Graham O’Connor for Barbarians and Stephen McGaley for the 86’s were first to register scores. McGaley was on tareran gert outside while his team mate Kie Brennan was unstoppable inside giving the 86’s a nine-point lead at half tiime. Despite the best efforts of the Barbarians the 86’s continued to impress and took the game by seven.

DIVISION 4 MEN
Birds of a Feather 23 Scart United 21
THE second family affair of the tourfrom nament saw PJ Reidy, originally from Castleisland but now living in Kenmare, play with his two sons and their cousins, his brother Mark and family friends. They met a strong Scartaglen side who are seasoned blitz contesters. Scart Un were the strongest in the first half.
Seamus Scanlon was strong for his side and netting 12 points in the game. It was basket for basket for the remain of the game and they were 19 points each with less than two minutes to play. The Kenmare side held out to take win by a basket.
