BARDIC FESTIVAL
The inaugural Ballydonoghue Bardic Festival (BBF) is taking place in the parish on March 23rd - 25th 2018. It will showcase the vast array of talent, past and present, in Ballydonoghue. Workshops in Creative Writing, Poetry (for both adults and children), Music and Story-telling will all be part of the festival as well as a free concert on Saturday night, 24th, Open Mic sessions and a tongue-in-cheek Coffee Morning as Gaeilge. A mass will also be celebrated in Irish on the weekend ahead of the festival.
WEDDING
Congratulations to Derrie Dillon, son to Ann and the late Dermot, Janemount and Michelle O’Callaghan, Cork, who were married in St Theresa’s Church, Ballydonoghue and celebrated with family and friends in the Listowel Arms Hotel.
DEATHS
Sympathy is extended to the O’Connor family, Ballyouneen, Lisselton on the death of the late Mary’s sister, Marita Kissane (nee McEnery, Slievawaddra, Ballyduff) in Northamptonshire, UK. Funeral took place on Saturday last in St Peter’s and Paul’s Church, Ballyduff followed by internment in Rahela Cemetery.
The death occurred on December 17th of Lizzie Ferris (nee Barry, Ballingown), Tarbert. Sympathy is extended to her daughters, Mary and Catherine and their families, her brothers, Mick, Ballingown, Patsy, Ballydonoghue, her sister, Mary Anne, Ballybunion and to their extended families.
The death occurred on Christmas Day of Willie O’Connor, Kilmorna. Sympathy is extended to his wife, Kate (nee Purtill, Ballydonoghue), his sons, Seamus and Declan, his daughters, Mary and Triona and to their extended families, to the Purtill families, Ballydonoghue and Rahoona, Ballybunion, Larkin and McGuire families, Ballybunion.
The death occurred of Bridie Broderick (nee Barrett). Listowel and formerly, Gale Cross, Lisselton. Sympathy is extended to her cousins and friends.
The death occurred on December 28th of George Ogden, Ballingown, Knockroe Drive, Listowel and Manchester, UK. Sympathy is extended to his daughters, Margaret (Barry) and Helen, sons, George, Kieran and Roger and to their extended families, to Tim, Mary, Meghann and Tadhg Barry, to the Dalton family, Glouria, Sheehy family, Ballydonoghue and McNamara family, Glouria. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, six weeks ago.
The death has occurred of Sarah Kissane, (nee O’Donnell, Kilgarvan), Dublin. The funeral took place in Dublin on Monday and Tuesday, Jan 1st & 2nd. Months mind mass for the late Sarah will take place in St Theresa’s Church, Ballydonoghue on Saturday, January 27th. Predeceased by her husband, Thomas, her son, William and her brother, George. Sympathy is extended to her sons, Richard and Cormac and their families, her brother, John Joe and Maureen and family, Kilgarvan, her sisters, Annie Kissane and family, Kilgarvan and Ballybunion, Peggie and Gerald Fitzgerald and family, Coolkeragh, Maureen and Con Nolan and family, Farnastack and Nodie Heaphy and family, Ballylongford and Listowel. May they rest in peace.

Kerry Senior Hurling Team: The new season resumed with 1st Round of Munster League Loss to Clare. Ballyheigue were represented by Philip Lucid.
COURSING LOTTO
The following numbers were drawn on Weds 27th December in the Ballyheigue & District Coursing Club Lotto: 3-6-12-23. The Jackpot was not won. The €50 winner was Charlie Diggins c/o Christina, €25 winners were Noreen McElligott c/o Pat, Catherine Guerin c/o White Sands and C & D Neilan c/o Christina. Next week is Jackpot €8250. Next draw take place in Kirbys Tuesday January 2nd. Happy New Year to all our Supporters.
BADMINTON
We finished off the first half of the season with our Annual trip to Causeway Badminton Club for their Christmas Tournament. After a very enjoyable day the winning team was Edel Broderick, Niall Hanlon, Frankie Flaherty and Diana Murray.
We start off the second half of the season on Monday the 8th January and then on the 10th we have the final of the Div 4 men’s league between Ballyheigue and Moyvane in the Pres Hall Tralee. This is a first for the men but our Div 4 ladies have already won two titles in the last three years so we wish the men best of luck. The team is John McDonnell, Kevin O Mahony, Colum Carroll, Colm Griffin and Noel Carroll.
Next up after that is the Listowel tournament 13th and 14th January followed by our own Ballyheigue tournament on Sunday 21st.
Club nights continue Mondays and Thursdays 8.30 to 10pm in the Community Centre.
RINGS
We held our annual Christmas doubles Tournament last week in the Family Resource Centre.
We had eight pairings competing and at the end of the night Christina Murnane and John Kearney beat Michelle Corr and Patrick Corridon in the final.
The prize for the highest score on the night went to Noel Kelliher with a score of fifty-three.
We will resume in Tuesday January 9th at 9 pm in the Family Resource Center. New members welcome.
DEATH
The death occurred of Kathleen (Kathy) Styles nee Lawlor, Chapel Rd, Ballyheigue formerly of Bouleenshere, Ballyheigue. They Reposed in Harnetts Funeral Home Ballyheigue on Saturday 23rd December followed by removal to St Mary’s Church Ballyheigue. Requiem Mass took place on Tuesday 26th December and burial took place afterwards in St Marys Cemetery Ballyheigue. MAY SHE REST IN PEACE.
Sadly missed by her loving Family. Predeceased by her husband Jackie, sisters Maryann and Eileen (McCormack) and brother Maurice. Loving mother of Angela and Ann, sons in law Jim McEvoy (Cork City) and Brendan McCarthy (Banna, Ardfert) Grandmother of Bill, James, Karen, Aileen, Eoin, Maryann. Great Grandmother to Edward, Aoife and Rose. Sisters Dora (Furlong), Hanna (Reidy), Bridie (Daly), and wonderful sister and Best Friend Alice (Tess). Brothers Tom, James, Johnny, Denny. Uncle Joe O Sullivan (Caherciveen and Reading England). brothers in laws, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, gran nieces, grand nephews and relatives and Jackie’s nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.
