RETIREMENT

On Thursday, December 21, O’Brennan NS hosted a Retirement Service to honour outgoing Principal Mike Sweeney.

Fr Pat Crean returned to the parish to celebrate Mass during which a Cermony of Light, a Reflection and Prayers of the Faithful were performed by members of staff, board of management, parents’ council and pupils past and present. The School Choir under the.

guidance Ms Andrea Brosnan greatly added to the occasion.

After the Mass presentations were made to Mike by the board of management, parents’ council and his family to recognise the 36 years he dedicated to the education of children in the O’Brennan catchment area.

Speeches were made by chairperson of the board of management Teresa Lonergan and former teaching colleague Kathleen Griffin which outlined the great work Mike has undertaken for the betterment of O’Brennan. The final speech was made by the man of the moment in which he thanked everyone who helped him in his time in the School. He expressed his gratitute to his wife Sheila and family, who had been a great support to him throughout the years.

The evening finished some light refreshments.

Great credit is due to all who organised the event which was a fitting tribute to Master Sweeney. Ni bheidh a leitheidi aris.
