CCE NEWS

Ballydonog­hue/Lisselton branch concert will take place this Saturday night 24th February in Tomaisins Hall.This is always a great night of local entertainm­ent from the Music,Singing and dancing classes of our branch. Concert will commence at 6.30 sharp. The branch church gate collection will also take place this weekend your support is greatly appreciate­d.

RTE 1 tonight, Wednesday, February 21st, the Nationwide programme (7.00pm) features the legacy of the late Liam Healy, Listowel and the continuati­on of the racing photograph­y business by his son, Pat Cash Healy. The late Liam is brother to the late Geraldine Long, Guhard. The programme will cover a day at Goffs Thyestes Day in Gowran Park, numerous interviews with racing personnel as well as a visit to Listowel to meet the extended Healy family.

INDOOR ATHLETICS

An indoor athletics meeting for Primary Schools will be held in the Sports Hall, Causeway on Wednesday next March 7th from 6.00pm 8.00pm. Bliain na Gaeilge by the present government, it being the 125th anniversar­y of the founding of the Gaelic League, the cultural organisati­on that became one of the main motivating forces which ushered in our era of national self-determinat­ion, The Group is planning to hold a Special Event to honour all those who strove so hard to hold the Annual Aeríocht as community cultural and sporting event in the 40s, 50s and early 60s.

With many sources being harnessed it is fondly hoped that this Event will release the creating potential of our region in an imaginativ­e way. Thanking you.

RACE COMMITTEE MEETING

A meeting of the Ballyheigu­e Race Committee will be held in the K.L.Lounge this Friday evening 2nd March at 9.30pm. All members are asked to attend.

COURSIING LOTTO

PRIMARY SCHOOL SPORTS

A primary schools’ indoor sports for pupils in 1st to 6th classes will be held in Causeway hall on Wednesday March 7th from 6pm to 8pm. All boys and girls in Ballyheigu­e schools in those classes are most welcome to attend and children new to athletics are especially welcome. COMMUNITY GAMES 2018

Last weekend saw a fantastic start to the beginning of our Community Games year. First out on Saturday was the ever talented Shauna Casey who got 1st place again this year in the U-16 Art. Brilliant achievemen­t by Shauna, we wish her Best of Luck in the All-Ireland. Hard luck to Molly, who did very well. Sunday took us to Listowel for the County Draughts. We entered 4 teams with 3 teams arrived home with medals.

Our U-12 team were unlucky to come up against tough opposition at the beginning. U-10 team received 3rd place, Bronze medals for Max Fitzgerald, Kallum and Ceidi Hussey, Luke Boyle, Cillian O’ Halloran, William Stack and Eric O’Sullivan. With both our U-14 and U-16 taking home Gold Medals it ensured Ballyheigu­e received the overall winner’s trophy for the 5th year running. U-14 team Denis Lynch, Dara Donnelly, David O’Grady, Darragh O’Fuairain, Matthew Boyle and Charlie Fitzgerald. U-16 team Adam Dineen, David O’Sullivan, Dara Kearney, Samantha Fitzgerald, Oisin O’Regan, Eric Walsh and Maggie Stack.

SENIOR CITIZENS DAY-CARE

Our Community Centre also runs a Senior Citizens Social Group every Wednesday at the Community Centre. We provide a three course meal, bingo and light activities.

The Irish Cancer Society operates a free transport service for patients attending hospital for chemothera­py treatment. Volunteer Drivers pick the patient up at the door of their home, drop them at the hospital door, and then when finished treatment, will pick them up and drop them home. Volunteer expenses are paid. To celebrate World Book Day 2018 the Seanchaí Centre, Listowel will host a morning ‘open mic’ reading on Thursday March 1st from 11 am to 1 pm. Admission is free and all are welcome along to read from their favourite book, or from their own work.
