Stunning slew of awards for town
Listowel businesses clean up in county and national awards
NATIONAL and county titles by the truckload were won by local enterprises in an extraordinary week of amazing recognition for the experts of town.
Mike the Pie’s was first among the great achievers, winning the incredible title of Ireland’s Best Live Venue in the IMRO Awards a fortnight ago.
It was an amazing vote of recognition for the famous bar’s relatively recent departure into live music, winning the gold seal of approval by the organisation representing musicians across the country.
But it was far from the only big feather in the town’s cap, as some of Listowel’s other key businesses were celebrated for their prowess in a number of challenging fields; not least the world of weddings.
The Listowel Arms Hotel, Finesse Bridal Boutique and The Butler Centre were firmly on the roll-call of honours at the inaugural Brides of Kerry Awards held in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel last week.
Patrice O’Callaghan and all the team at the Arms were feted as the Best Boutique Wedding Venue in the county under the awards – no surprise to any of the couples to have been married in brilliant style there over the years.
Sisters Liz and Mags Horgan and the team at Finesse were meanwhile celebrated as the Best Bridal Boutique in Kerry, again in recognition of a fantastic wedding brand that delivers an intimate level of care and an extraordinary array of stunning wedding dresses to clients from all over the province and beyond.
Meanwhile, the newly refurbished Butler Centre in the Square was awarded Runner-up in the Best Alternative Wedding Venue in Kerry at the same awards, just months after its opening, a great achievement by owner Antoinette Butler.
That wasn’t all as Garvey’s SuperValu took another big national title – it is now Ireland’s Best Large SuperValu store (see page 11).
Chairperson of the Listowel Business and Community Alliance Stephen Stack congratulated all the great enterprises for their well-deserved wins this week.
“This is a really positive news story. It is great to see such a diverse mix of winners across the different sectors, huge congratulations to all who celebrated significant wins,” Stephen said.
