Nominations sought for KCC Irish language business prizes

-

THE Irish Office at Kerry County Council has invited nominations for a new awards scheme to reward businesses promoting and developing the Irish language in its daily business.

Gradam Gnó Chiarraí will be open to all business types across four main categories: retail; services; tourism; and other businesses.

A further two prizes will be presented to the best finalist both within and outside Kerry’s two Gaeltach regions.

Nominations will be open until the end of this month, and with two months to go to judging, businesses have an ample window to develop their Irish language services with customers, on signage, or in other ways.

“Irish can be used in many ways in businesses – by speaking Irish to customers, by using it on signage (indoor and outdoor), on stationery, brochures, leaflets, menus and on other printed material,” Roibeard Ó hEartáin of Kerry County Council’s Irish Office said.

“Use of Irish creates a distinctive image that can give your business a marketing edge and attract new customers.

“With Gaeltacht areas and Irish speaking communities growing up around our many Gaelscoileanna it makes good business sense to target these growing audiences.

“Support packages are available from Foras na Gaeilge and Glór na nGael are available to advise you on how best to develop Irish in your business.”

For entry details, contact Roibeard Ó hEartáin, Oifig na Gaeilge, Comhairle Contae Chiarraí at gaeilge@ciarrai.ie.
