Cycling season kick starts with Two Lakes Challenge
IT’S time to dust down your bike and get training for the forthcoming summer cycling events with the first on the calender taking place this week.
Killorglin Community College’s Two Lakes Challenge is scheduled for this Saturday, March 10 at 9.30am.
Whether you are a pro cyclist, a novice, a granny or a toddler, there is a route on this cycle for you and your family.
There are three routes to choose from. The 60km and 40km routes circle the scenic Caragh Lake, pass through Blackstones Bridge, Lough Acoose and then on to Glencuttane or Beaufort before arriving back at the Community College for some well deserved complimentary refreshments.
The 12km route is a nice one for the younger members of the family which heads towards Glounaguillagh National School before turning back to the Community College via Groyne Cross and Ardmoniel.
The annual cycle is a vital fundraiser for Killorglin Community Colleg and they plan to use the funds to invest in high-tech ICT infrastructure to ensure that they remain the pioneers of ICT in education.
“All of this costs money which is not included in the annual Department of Education budget so the parents council have rallied the troops to put together another fantastic cycle,” says Deputy principal Donal O’Reilly.
“This is a great family fun day out while also taking in some of our finest scenery.
The exercise is just a pleasant bonus. We had great support last year and are expecting large numbers again this year,” he added.
“We are very grateful to Killing Cycling Club and all of our sponsors who once again have given us unconditional support in all areas.”
We look forward to welcoming everyone on Saturday 10th March at 9:30am or what is sure to be another successful event.
Entry fees is student €10 or individual €20 and a family €24. Pre-registration is available on Eventbrite page at the Two Lakes Challenge page.
