St Marys crush Imperials in one-sided affair

DARRAGH O’Connell opened for the home team, David Lynch and Shane O’Connell added baskets to see St. Mary’s go eight points to no score up in the first four minutes.

Gary Murphy was first to register a score for Imperials, he added a bonus and Robbie Dinan added a point but the Tralee side were no match for St. Mary’s who hit four from outside and missed nothing inside during this first quarter which finished 23-4 in favour of the Castleisla­nd side.

Tralee’s Gary Murphy opened the scoring in the second quarter but David Riordan and Jonathon Hilliard were quick to respond pushing St. Mary’s further ahead. St. Mary’s registered 12 points to Imperials nine for the quarter leaving St Mary’s 35-13 in front at half time.

A big third quarter performanc­e from Imperials Gary Murphy saw them take the quarter and reduce the gap by four points. St. Mary’s led by eighteen (48-30) with just the final quarter to go.

Imperials Keelan Crowe netted an impressive 10 points for his side but they were no match for St. Mary’s who took the points without ever hitting top gear.

SENIOR MEN’S DIVISION

Killarney Cougars 68 St Annes 42

COUGARS last home game of the season saw them finish comfortabl­e winners over Farrenfore side St Anne’s, a win that moves the Cougars back to the top of the league. Cougars led throughout and were at full strength for this final home game of the season. Cougars held a big lead at half time 34-15 and despite a big effort by St Annes in the second half Cougars had the points secured well before the final buzzer.

Best for Cougars were Marius Dailyde, David Bartlett, Darren Gaffey and Daniel Aleksejenk­o. St Anne’s best performanc­es came from Aidan McCarthy, Conor O’Callaghan and John O’Rourke.

U16 GIRLS DIVISION 2

KCYMS 31 Killarney Cougars 28

A TOP of the table clash saw Killorglin secure the points over Cougars in an important game at the top of the league. KCYMS made a great start to lead by 8pts in the opening minutes Fodhla Houlihan on target with a couple of good baskets.

The Killarney girls were slow to start but recovered by half-time to trail by five points with Alison Flynn impressing. The sides went basket for basket through the second half with Cougars briefly taking the lead in the last quarter by a point thanks to baskets by Maeve Bellew and Holly Clifford but the home side recovered well with Houlihan again to the fore with 4 points from the free throw line in the last minute ensuring a deserved but hard earned win over the league leaders.

KCYMS best performers were Anna Kerrisk, Hannah McGeever and Fodhla Houlihan with Cougars Holly Clifford, Alison Flynn, and Maeve Bellew all impressing.

U12 GIRLS DIVISION 2

Killarney Cougars 52 St Bridget’s 18

COUGARS hosted the Currow girls at the Pres Gym Killarney and they made home advantage count with a great first half performanc­e as they continued their great recent form.

Cougars lead by 8 pts after a good competitiv­e first qtr with Mia Griffin dominant with 11pts. Cougars Grace O’Connor and Lucy O’Sullivan added good baskets to increase the lead despite good effort by the impressive Jessica Loughlin who added good baskets for St Bridget’s.

The visitors had a good third quarter with Sarah Scanlon working hard, but Cougars continued to impressive and dominate and finished comfortabl­e winners with good performanc­es by Ciara O’Donoghue, Stephanie Carey, Sarah McAuliffe and Grace O’Connor.
