Valentia not hit badly by Emma

-

THE snow storm Emma which occurred in the very early days of March had, thankfully, no major damaging impact on Valentia. On Friday, March 2, locals woke up to a blanket of snow.

However, the whole event resulted in pleasurable activities for children and adults who wanted to relive the day of their youth as they engaged in constructing snowmen and imaginative other creations to make for a novel carnival atmosphere on that Friday and the following Saturday.

The igloo built on the back garden of Eileen Mort O’Sullivan was a particular attraction for friends and neighbours. The igloo was built by her son Ger Jack, his wife Maha and nephews Donagh,Cian and Liam. Ger Jack manufactured each igloo building snow block with the aid of a timber mould. He learned the trick of the trade from a holiday spent in Canada a number of years ago.Viewing neighbours were hospitably treated to a variety of refreshments by his mother Eileen, a former Lord Mayor of Valentia. Ger has very kindly offered to give free igloo building instruction sessions for three nights in the Ring Lyne Bar at a date to soon be decided.
