The Kerryman (North Kerry)

County Club Championships start with two JFC preliminary round fixtures

Asdee v Kilgarvan

MIXED fortunes for both on the opening day of the League, Asdee winning a very tight affair with Knocknagoshel on home turf with Kilgarvan on the end of a 10 strong scoring run by Austin Stacks B in losing out in their opener in Division Five.

The success at Championship level has been more with the North Kerry side, a 2013 Novice Shield win leading to success in Knockaderry while they also made the old Novice Championship Semi-Finals in 2015.

Kilgarvan are more renewed at senior level with the injection of some young players and while they won’t fear the trip, home advantage might just swing it Asdee’s way and send them into a group featuring Ballyduff, Renard and Valentia.

Verdict: Asdee

Moyvane v Knocknagoshel

TOUGH times for both clubs for a variety of different reasons in the last number of years but both will view this as an opportunity to go in a new direction with the guarantee of three Club Championship fixtures. Moyvane enter with a four point win over Dingle B last weekend while Knock will have to pick themselves up from a loss to Asdee.

Another one where home advantage might play a big part, Moyvane have the experience of reaching last year’s Novice decider. Indeed the chance to play at a higher level here possibly against the side who beat them in that decider, Cromane, along with the previous Novice winners Lispole and a fellow promotion contender from last year in Cordal should appeal to them.

Verdict: Moyvane
