Beale and Tarbert
Lawlor and Con Buckley from the penalty spot added further goals but a massive rally from Castle turned the game on its with Jimmy O’Grady, Liam Maunsell and Fitzgerald all contributing so much that the hosts needed a late free from John O’Leary to ensure a draw.
Skellig Rangers’ lengthy journey up to Shannon Park in Tarbert ended in defeat, meanwhile, as despite the South Kerry side enjoying a slender 0-3 to 0-2 lead at the break, they turned the ball into their own net in giving Tarbert a match winning goal in the second period at 1-6 to 0-8. Darragh O’Sullivan had given the Portmagee side the lead just before the interval but Tarbert were more effective in the second period as Ger O’Sullivan equalised and a brilliant Brian Heaphy effort put them ahead on the scoreboard. The own goal was a setback but Skellig still looked to have done enough to get a draw before Ger O’Sullivan put over a fine winning point in a game where Tarbert centre-back Danny Wrenn excelled.
Tarbert travel to Cordal next while Skellig must pick themselves up quickly for a fierce local derby with St Michaels/Foilmore. Ballylongford versus Renard is another lengthy ‘North versus South’ affair while Gneeveguilla have a somewhat shorter journey to Cromane.
Firies will hope to gather themselves for the visit of Beale while Fossa head west to take on Castlegregory.
