TEXT ALERT SCHEME

It is a considerable period of over 20 years since an active Community Alert last operated in Knocknagoshel. The new Text Alert Scheme gives the local people a sense of safety and security. It was launched by Gerardine Griffin chair-woman of the group responsible for the new scheme.

Local Garda John Enright and Listowel based sergeant Paula Kelliher attended the launching and advised the gathering how the system worked and how when contacted, John Enright or the Listowel Garda Station will send an alert to everyone in the scheme. Membership cost 10 Euro and taking into consideration the number of break-ins and the theft of tools etc. it is money well spent.

The Co. Council Engineer, Liam O=92Sullivan has erected Text Alert Signs about the village. These signs in themselves are a great deterrent and there are approx 100 members signed up to the scheme since its launch.

A campaign is underway to encourage others to join and take an active part in the local community. A word of congratulations to all involved and we wish the Text Alert Scheme every success.

FR. PAT AHERN

Congratulations to Fr. Pat Ahern who received a civic reception from Kerry Co. Council recently. Fr. Pat was acknowledged for his great work in promoting the artistic, musical and literary traditions of Kerry, and Ireland, especially at Siamsa Tire, Tralee.

During his time in Knocknagoshel Parish he organised a pageant on the miracle of Lourdes, with a very talented local cast. The show opened in the community centre hall and drew attendances from the four corners of Ireland as well as locally. It was scheduled to run for three to four weeks, but it ended up running for almost double the time.

He also established a branch of Comhaltas and he coached and promoted traditional Irish Dancing, sean-nos singing ceili and Irish dancing and got the support of young and old alike.

A native of Moyvane, he contributed to the cultural life of the parish of Knocknagoshel and if you like created a mini Siamsa Tire in the village on the hill. He served in the Parish when the National Spirit was at a very low ebb, but Fr. Pat enkindled a new approach and the superior talent he resurrected with the Pageant etc blossomed and continues to thrive and grow going from strength to strength as the years go by.

Fad saol cughat Fr Pat, Is go mairig tu cead is blian chun aiseirai.

DEATH

It is with great sorrow we announce the death of Eamon Carmody, Ballyduff Knocknagoshel, whose death occurred on March 3rd. 2018. Reposal took place at Leahy=92s Funeral Home on Tuesday March 6th. Followed by removal to St. Mary=92s Church Knocknagoshel. Requiem Mass took place on Wednesday, with burial afterwards in Knockane Cemetery, Knocknagoshel.

He worked for a period in England and made many trips to London and Birmingham in his youth. He had a wide knowledge of the history of Knocknagoshel and the wider Sliabh Luachra area. He loved and enjoyed traditional Irish music and was definitely a free spirit and he could be described as a local character. He now rests in his native soil in Knockane his travels ended.

Eamonn a chara may you rest in peace. Sonas siorrai da anam dilis.
