TIDY TOWNS

We have hit mid-Spring and this is the first week that a warm bright feeling has been experienced after a long winter. It is great to see the daffodils peeping through after the weight of the snow on them and the battering endured by Storm Emma. The whole recovery is a wonderful example of the resilience of the daffodil. The new season will begin with the A.G.M. which will take place at Halla Inse Ban on Friday March 16th at 8 p.m. The group needs more assistance and interest from the community so anyone who is in a position to help, please come to the meeting. Well done to Mary who kept the village area litter free during the whole winter season .

COMHBHRÓN

The death occurred at his residence on Thursday, March 1 of Willie Mulcahy, Meenoline. He had reached the fine age of ninety-two. Willie was held in high regard in the community and by all with whom he was acquainted. He was an avid card player and bingo player and loved to travel to these events in various locations until ill-health no longer allowed him to do so. He was a wonderful neighbour, always willing to help when the need arose. Willie was a cordial, kind-hearted person, positive in outlook and helped to bring cheer to many a gathering. He will be sadly missed by family, neighbours and a very wide circle of friends. His remains lay in repose at Harnett’s funeral home on Sunday evening before removal to Templeglantine Church. The funeral mass on Monday was concelebrated by Fr Mullane, Fr Hurley and Willie’s former neighbour, Fr John Horan who preached the homily. Burial followed in Reilig na Tríonóide where his grand-daughter, Claire bade him farewell with a traditional tune on the whistle . He is survived by his son Séamus, daughters Nora and Peg, daughter-in-law Anne, sons-in-law Denny and Tom, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives. Go dtuga Dia suaimhneas síorraí dá anam.

GLÓR

Seachtain na Gaeilge has now commenced with various special events throughout the country. We are reminded of the importance of our language and cultural heritage. Ba cheart dúinn go léir iarract níos mó a dhéanamh chun ár dteanga agus ár gcultúr a chur chun cinn. There have been many favourable comments on the place name signs erected by Limerick City and Co Council along the Great Southern Greenway. The townlands names are given in Irish with the meaning in English.
