Delight in Caherdaniel as playground opens
SUNDAY was a special day for the community in Caherdaniel with a large crowd gathering for the official opening of the village’s long awaited playground.
The new playground is the result of year’s tireless hard work by a highly dedicated local committee who campaigned tenaciously to get the amenity built and organised scores of events to help pay for it.
While Leader funding of over €109,000 was provided to help cover the costs of the playground, the local committee still had to raise nearly €40,000 to actually get it built.
Work on the playground – which was built by Cork based firm Browne Brothers – started two months ago and by February 14 it was ready for the local children to enjoy.
The playground was officially opened on Sunday afternoon and fittingly the Mayor of Caherdaniel Teresa Clifford – who was elected in a competition held to raise funds for the playground – was the person who cut the ribbon and declared it officially open.
As one would expect the playground has proved a huge hit with local youngsters and the beautifully designed and located amenity –which is set on a spacious site adjacent to the village church and overlooking Derrynane Bay – has been a very busy spot since it opened.
The scenic village is a hugely popular holiday destination and the playground is also sure to very popular with the many children from outside the parish who visit the area with their families every summer.
