Stacks launch run in memory of late club legend Paul Lucey
AUSTIN Stacks launched an inaugural run on Monday in a wonderful tribute to the memory of a man who helped lead the club to numerous sporting achievements of note over the years - the late Paul Lucey.
The Caragh Lake native and Laune Ranger, who moved to
Tralee as a young teacher when his involvement with the Stacks began, passed away last December to the deep sadness of all in the famous GAA club.
A proud Austin Stacks man nearly all his adult life, Paul had a long and distinguished history with the club and its players.
He won an All Ireland club medal in 1977 and he also played a key role in bringing the 1986 and 1994 teams to county championship glory. He was also involved with the Austin Stacks Senior Ladies team - who won the Intermediate County Final last year.
Now, Austin Stacks are coming together behind a new event ‘Run for the Rock Paul Lucey Memorial Run’, launched on Monday night at the clubhouse.
Paul had a great love of football but more importantly a great love of fitness and well-being so a memorial run is a fitting tribute to him.
The run will take place on the May Bank Holiday weekend and will include a 10k and 5k route and it is hoped that they runners and walkers will take part in what is hoped will be a fantastic Tralee event.
Paul’s son, Niall Lucey, said the family are delighted and honoured with the memorial run and they are calling on everyone to come out and support the event. “We are delighted to be associated with this run and we encourage as many people as possible to dig out their runners and take part in this event,” Niall said. Registration is now open on Eventbrite under Run for the Rock the Paul Lucey Memorial Run.
