Killorglin flags its national pride

- By SINEAD KELLEHER

MAKING Killorglin look its best is the key aim of Killorglin Tidy Towns and this year the local organisation has a host of plans to ensure the town puts its best foot forward.

The local Tidy Towns Comittee held their AGM last week where the projects and funds for next year were discussed.

Funding of €1,500 from Cllr Damian Quigg’s council allocation was confirmed at the meeting and the Tidy Towns group wasted no time in ensuring that this funding was put to good use to buy new flags for Library place.

The previous flags were tattered so it was decided to buy new ones this year.

New Kerry, Irish and EU flags are now flying high in Library place. The remainder of the funding from Cllr Quigg will be used to purchase flowers to brighten up the town.

PRO for Killorglin Tidy Towns Committee Orna Eccles and Chairman Brendan Foley have welcomed the funding saying that it is a great boost for Killorglin Tidy Towns as they begin another year working on projects within the community. They thanked Cllr Quigg for his very generous contribution.

Cllr Quigg said that Killorglin Tidy Towns do trojan work and he was delighted to be able to help them.

“It gives me great satisfaction when I come into town and see the wonderful work that the people of our community are doing and to have played some small part in making this happen fills me with pride.”

“They give a huge amount of voluntary time and take huge pride in their work.

“Since the foundation of Tidy Towns Killorglin has looked so much better and their endeavors to address global warming through their green energy and biodiversity projects is a testament to their ongoing commitment to making Killorglin.”
