Top marks to Killorglin parade ‘18
KILLORGLIN celebrated more than just one event this St Patrick’s Day as the parade was led by the Division 1 Ireland National League Champions in Basketball. The parade had over 40 floats and was seen to be one of the best parade’s Killorglin has seen. The crowd celebrated the glory of the Basketball team as they led the parade following the Fire Trucks and the Killorglin and District Pipe Band.
This years parade was very creative when it came the floats. The most talked about float being The Rowing Clubs float as the transformed a trailer into a pirates ship with its very own crew. The cold weather didn’t stop the dancers of Killorglin either as Irwin Dancing School’ girls paraded around in their Dancing Dresses and shoes. The girls even got to perform a jug during the parade. Orna Eccles one of the three people on the committee said “We had a mighty turnout. Everyone had a great day and we have gotten loads of messages praising the floats and all the hard work that went into the parade. We were very grateful for all who helped especially the stewards and volunteers. We couldn’t have done it without you.”
Celebrities like Councillor Damian Quigg and King Puck walked in the parade alongside many of the sports clubs in Killorglin. The men’s Social club a d the Archives Society also walked in the parade wearing the colours of the tri-coloured flag. The parade that kicked off at 1pm was a huge success and provided entertainment such as bouncy castles were provided throughout the day. “We would like to thank everyone involved and we hope to make the parade better and better every year for everyone” Orna said.
