HANDED DOWN
The next handed down programme in Scartaglin Heritage Centre is entitled ‘Remembering Johnny O’Leary’ which will be presented by Terry Moylan so that’s a night to look forward to and that’s scheduled for this Saturday night March 24th. Arguably the most important musician and link to Padraig O’Keeffe, Tom Billy, Din Tarrant and the tunes of Sliabh Luachra was Johnny O’Leary. Terry Moylan who finished off the task of collecting music from Johnny which Breandan Breathnach started will visit Scartaglin to share his memories of time spent with Johnny O’Leary. Special guests include Ellen Healy (Johhny’s daughter) on tin whistle, Bryan O’Leary on accordion, John Brosnan Kilcummin on accordion, Carthach O Faoilain Waterford on box with Cailin O’ Se Castlemaine flute. Young musicians Aoife and Meadhabh McCarthy Aubane Milstreet, John Power Firies, Caroline Hurley Tralee, Sean Fitzgerald Castleisland. Starting time is 8pm.
SAMARITANS COLLECTION
The annual Christmas church gate collection in aid of Kerry Samaritans held in Scartaglen realised a sum of E574. Sincere thanks to all those who contributed so generously and a word of thanks also to those who helped take up this collection.
HOSPICE WALK
The annual Castleisland Good Friday walk in aid of Kerry Hospice will take place on March 30th. This year the walk will start and finish at the library car park. Nana Beas have kindly sponsored refreshments for all participants after the event. The walk will start at 11am.
