1. TEST YOURSELF AT BALLYBUNIO­N RUNS

IT’S getting closer to the big day up in Ballybunio­n, as they put the finishing touches on preparatio­ns for the ninth annual Ballybunio­n Half-marathon, 10km run and a 1km kids fun run - all taking place on Saturday, March 31.

Registrati­on is available online at www.runballybu­nion - the half marathon is set to cost €35, the 10km is €25 and the kids fun run is €5.

2. TICKETS ON SALE FOR ‘LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS’

TICKETS are currenly on sale for the premiere of the ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ production which will show in Tralee’s Siamsa Tíre from Wednesday, March 21 to Saturday March 24.

Presented by the ground-breaking Light Opera Society of Tralee, the smash hit sci-fi musical has devoured the hearts of theatre and cinema goers for over 30 years.

The show will be directed by talented Tralee duo Aidan and Gráinne O’Carroll; tickets are set to cost €19 with the show starting at 8pm on the night

3. MILLTOWN’S KERRY HOSPICE WALK

THE annual Good Friday walk to raise funds for the Palliative Care Centre Tralee, will be held in in Milltown on Friday March 30.

The walk will start from 10am at the Community Hall in the Square and refreshmen­ts will be served afterwards - everyone is welcome to attend on the day; registrati­on is available on the day.

4. ANNUAL STRICKEEN CHARITY CLIMB

THE reschedule­d Strickeen Charity Climb is now taking place on Saturday March 24 and will be in aid of the Palliative Care Unit in Killarney, Tralee and Killorglin, St Josephs Home and the Oncology Unit in Tralee.

Registrati­on begins at Kate Kearney’s Cottage from 10:30am to 11am with refreshmen­ts set to be provided after the climb up Strickeen Mountain.

5. FENIT SET FOR ITS ANNUAL COASTAL CYCLE

THE Annual Fenit Coastal Cycle takes place this coming Saturday March 24 from St Brendans NS.

Starting at 10am on the day, the cycle will be a fundraiser for the school and is open to both youths and adults; there are 10km, 25km and 60km options available on the day - registrati­on is set to cost €25,

6. CASTLEISLA­ND TO HOLD HOSPICE WALK

THE annual Hospice walk will take place on Good Friday, March 30.

This year the walk will commence and end at the library car park in Castleisla­nd; there will be refreshmen­ts provided after the walk, kindly sponsored by Nana Bea’s.

If you are in and around the area, please consider taking part in this worthy cause walk.

7. HYDROBIKE CHALLENGE IN BALLYBUNIO­N

A DIFFERENT sort of charity event will be taking place in the Ballybunio­n Leisure Centre next week – all in aid of two worthy causes.

Kieran Kennelly, along with a hardy group of volunteers, will take part in a 24-hour hydrobike challenge - starting at 4pm on Friday March 23 - which will be in aid of the Nano Nagle School in Listowel and Kerry Parents and Friends.

Anyone looking to help out with the challenge on the day can give Kieran a call on 087 2594298.

8. MODERN CLASSIC IN TRALEE CINEMA THIS WEEKEND

TRALEE Omniplex continues its runs of screening modern classics this weekend when it shows Gene Wilders ‘Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ from Saturday, March 24 to Monday March 26.

Tickets for the screening are currently on sale from omniplex. ie - don’t miss out on this great walk down nostalgia way.

9. GET DANCING IN AID OF CHARITY THIS WEEK

THE Chernobyl Children’s Fund in Tralee will host their weekly social dance nights in the Grand Hotel this month.

This great night of dancing start s at 9pm every Wednesday night with the cost of entry each night set at €8.

The lineup for the month of March is as follows: March 21 (Mike Condon) and March 28, Eddie Lee.

10. GET EXERCISING THIS WEEKEND WITH PARKRUN

WHY not try to head down to take part in one of the many parkruns taking place around Kerry at the weekends?

There are four parkruns in Kerry: Tralee, Killarney, Listowel and the Tralee Junior parkrun.

These free 5km events are run every weekend by volunteers and they have been proven to be extremely popular in improving both physical and mental health.

The Tralee. Listowel and Killarney parkruns are held every Saturday morning from 9:30am onwards while the Tralee Junior parkrun takes place on Sunday at 9:30am - these 2km events are aged for children from 4-14 years old. People can register and print off their barcode at parkrun.ie.

Don’t miss out on this great morning run - it is the perfect way to start off your weekend - well, that’s if the weather holds up its end of the deal!
