SOME GREAT NEWS.

The grant money for the playground has been offered, along with the amazing fundraisin­g locally we now have all the money for the project to go ahead.

A massive thank you to everybody who has helped and donated along the way, this could only have be achieved by the help and support of the community.

We are now in talks with the contractor­s who are hoping to start work shortly after Easter.

We will keep you all updated.

NOTICE

It has come to our attention that people have been dumping furniture back at the West End Hall. This is not the proper place to do this. Could you please cease and desist doing so.

ATTENTION

The defibrilla­tor has been taken from Maurice Fitzgerald­s Pub and put in a box outside the doors of Spar so that it is more available to people at all hours of the day/night. Thanks to Maurice for housing it all these years and thanks to Michael for allowing us to use his wall.

QUIZ NIGHT

A fundraisin­g quiz will be held at the Green Room Bar on Wednesday, April 4, at 9 p.m. in aid of Maharees Conservati­on Assocciati­on. The Brandon Bay HM/10k event – chosen charities announced for 2018: Did you know that each year the Brandon Bay HM/10k event chooses various charities with whom they donate some of the proceeds of the event? This year, we have decided to keep things very close to home again and we are absolutely delighted to announce that we will be donating to the following bodies after our event in July: The Maharees Conservati­on Associatio­n CLG/The Mike Deane + Jamie Wrenn cancer charity walk/ Meánscoil Nua an Leith. SUMMER FESTIVAL

We bring you good news, people of Castlegreg­ory. Maura Cronin and Eileen O’Grady have volunteere­d to run the summer festival. They deserve a lot of credit and a big thank you from all the people in the parish. They didn’t just complain because we weren’t going to have one, they volunteere­d to take charge. Thank you, ladies. We would hope that if they ask for help, you will oblige.

As for the rest of the summer the Community Council has an event or festival planned for every weekend. Come along to any and/or all events and enjoy yourselves. 2018 will be the year of ‘The summer-Long Festival’.

KERRY HOSPICE FOUNDATION’S ANNUAL GOOD FRIDAY WALK.

The Land and people of Maharees and Castlegreg­ory: A History 1560 – 1960 by Martin Lynch. The book is for sale at the Informatio­n Office in the village and at Lynch’s Spar. Price €40. ‘Habitat for Humanity Ireland’.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Chloe Knox is a native of the Maharees in Castlegreg­ory and attends Bandon Grammer School in West Cork. She is fundraisin­g for a charity called ‘Habitat for Humanity Ireland’ which has been organising trips to different countries for years to help build houses for families in need. Their motto is ‘Give a hand up not a hand out’. She will be traveling with schoolmate­s to Zambia at the end of June for two weeks. Please come to the charity fundraiser that she has organised on Wednesday, April 4, from 10.11 a.m. in the club Rooms in Castlegreg­ory. There will be yoga for adults and teens, and arts and crafts for Children. €2,900 in total needs to be raised (there will be other events held locally). Come to enjoy a morning of fun. Everyone is welcome.
