‘Youth structures reap the rewards of positivity in South Kerry...’

-

COLLETTE Murphy stressed that the success of previous years in South Kerry in terms of youth and underage structures serves as a catalyst for the future. Entities like Cumann na Bunscoil and South Kerry Coiste na nÒg are busier than ever with all clubs participating in competitions. Clubs and their mentors are to be congratulated for their involvement as this must be acknowledged strongly for its vibrant positivity and contribution. This is often in the face of enormous challenges for clubs which everyone is confident of meeting head on.

Collette thanked all the Coiste na nÒg secretaries who work hard throughout the year to ensure games go ahead and that referees attend games. This cooperation and hard work ensures competitions are run smoothly. Club officers and coaches are also an integral part of the set-up.

For example, the continued hard work of people like PJ Reidy (Games Development Officer) who puts in Trojan effort with the underage structures is incredible, while the continued support received from staff and management of the national schools, the staff and management of Coláiste na Sceilge, also ensures children participate in sport in a meaningful way. The referees and match officials who participate must also be thanked. Collette stressed that while there are clear challenges ahead across all sectors, community participation and effort has proven that it can overcome any challenge when properly applied.

Ongoing work at Coláiste na Sceilge continues where coaching is up and running with sessions every Wednesday for U15s, U16 and senior players. This is vitally important, as is the 1st year students who practice every Thursday. This work must be acknowledged for its commitment and the support received from the staff and management of Coláiste na Sceilge.

Lastly, the youth structures in South Kerry remain very strong and this is testament to the multi-layered work that goes on behind the scenes. The careful and precise way in which the youth structures are now in place will help target all the region’s youth in the future.
