Clifford hat-trick fires Fossa to semi-finals

St Michaels Foilmore 2-8

IN what was shaping up beforehand to be a winner takes all contest, Fossa won and took it all, as Keel’s defeat of St Pats meant they topped the group as a result of their victory over St Michaels / Foilmore.

Fossa were clearly on top in the first half, inspired by the Clifford brothers, Paudie and goal-scorer David, but Ballyfoilm­ore hung on in there gamely. Kerry star Mark Griffin with their first half goal as they went in at the break Fossa 1-7 to St Michaels / Foilmore’s 1-3.

The second half was very entertaini­ng with scores from Tadgh O’Shea (2) and Paudie Clifford coulped with another David Clifford goal in the 11th minute further extending Fossa’s lead. St Michaels/Foilmore did fight their way back into the game in the latter stages of the half with some well taken scores, but David Clifford kicked his third goal of the game in the 27th minute to put this game beyond reach of their visitors.

With the young Kerry corner-forward in that kind of form they’ll take beating ing the semi-finals

Keel 1-13 St Pats 1-11

ST Pats started the game well with two well-taken points by Jordan Conway and Eoin O’Carroll after five minutes, but the home side started to dominate the middle third and registered the next five points

Gary Sayers, Martin Burke and Aaron Murphy settling the keel side. A David O’Callaghan free stopped the rot, but only momentaril­y as the home side added three further points. Keel held a five point half-time lead – 0-10 to 0-5.

The second half was only two minutes old when Keel continued there dominance with a high ball across the square David McAssey was quickest to a high ball for a tap in goal putting keel firmly in the driving seat further points from Gary sayers and Aaron Murphy in between a Willie Hurley effort.

St Pats got a goal of their own through David O’Callaghan giving pats hope but Keel defended in tru championsh­ip style holding out for a two point win.

Disappoint­ment for St Pats who now face into a relegation play-off at the end of the month.
