SHANNON L.N.G.

The able bodied men and women of Knocknagoshel making up the local labour work force will be delighted with the welcome news that the liquid natural gas terminal at Ballylongford, North Kerry is back on the agenda, this time with an excellent chance of success.

Paddy Power, boss of Shannon LNG has succeeded in obtaining a five year extension to its planning application for permission to build the terminal. The project also stands to win EU taxpayer’s money as it is on a list of projects of common interest, designed to link up states energy systems. The overseeing committee’s only Irish member Sean Kelly MEP proposed and lobbied in favour of Shannon LNG, for the importing of the gas from the USA produced fracking process. The gas terminal has also the support of Kerry T.D.’s, Senators, Kerry Co Council and local media and is driven along by Sean Kelly MEP who has taken a personal interest in the project, to his eternal credit. A decision is due in the coming weeks from An Bord Pleanala with hopefully a favourable outcome to help boost employment and retain the youth in our local areas.
