New directions for women
A GROUP of women in South Kerry are hoping to build a new future thanks to the South Kerry women’s network who has been delivering a New Directions programme to women in the Caherdaniel since last October.
The programme is aimed at increasing women’s potential and ability to access and engage in employment, education and training opportunities.
The programme is funded under the ESF funded Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning (PEIL) 2014-2020 and it seeks to help women believe in themselves and develop skills and a positive outlook.
Through interactive workshops, women learn about communicating clearly, building self-esteem, teamworking, transferable work skills, drafting a CV and identifying local work opportunities. Participants receive personal mentoring throughout.
The programme came to an end in Caherdaniel on Tuesday but the 11 women have so enjoyed it and each other’s company that they hope to continue as a women’s group, taking advantage of other events and activities offered by National Collective of Community Based Networks (NCCWN) South Kerry.
The second round of New Directions will be delivered in Cahersiveen starting on Monday April 23. It will run from 10am -1pm at the O’Connell Centre and is open to all women not in work or on Jobseeker’s benefit and there are still places available.
NCCWN South Kerry (formerly Southwest Kerry Women’s Association) is part of a national collective of 17 community-based women’s networks funded by the Department of Justice.
