STARS DAZZLE IN THE KILFLYNN NIGHT
WITH more gusto than a dawn chorus and billed as a starlit night the likes of which has never been seen before in Kilflynn, 14 amazing contestants put in flawless performance in the final of ‘Stars in Our Bars’ last Friday evening.
Co-hosted by Parker’s and Herbert’s bars, the event lived up to its hype as guests were entertained by a fabulous assortment of songs. As well as great entertainment, the occasion also demonstrated the feel-good factor that comes when a community joins forces to lend a hand as the money raised will help St Teresa’s secure a WIFI network for their school.
The demanding task of deciphering who the winners would be fell to councillors Toiréasa Ferris, Aoife Thornton, Mike Kennelly and former Minister, Jimmy Deenihan, all of whom shelved their party allegiances for the evening.
In Parker’s, the winner was none other than Paul Shanahan representing the Crotta GAA Club. Paul won both the judges and public’s vote for a solid rendition of Christy Hennessy’s ‘ Roll Back the Clouds’ and a classic from Scottish band, Wet, Wet, Wet. In Herbert’s the judges’ went for Kerrie Herbert, representing Six Crosses Shop, while Ciara Lynch, representing The Village Shop, took the public vote.
“It was a fantastic night and everything went off brilliantly,” said Ide Brosnan, Principal of St Teresa’s National School.
“We had the running of it down to a tee and it worked really well. We’ve also reached our target to secure the WIFi network and I just want to thank all the sponsors and people who helped make it such a fantastic night.”
“It’s nice to publicise the school and for the community to become involved in helping it in such a novel way Thanks also to our teacher, Tina O’Connell, who came up with the idea. We’re already planning to do it all again next year,” Ide added. Here’s hoping for more in 2019!
