THE GAME IN 60 SECONDS
MAIN MAN
Much praise is due to the midfield pairing of brothers Darragh and Barry O’Sullivan, who negated Legion’s towering duo of Billy McGuire and Padraig Lucey in the opening half before the elder brother, Darragh, was moved into a deeper defensive role. As far as picking a key man is concerned, however, there was still much to be said for Paul Geaney. He was less destructive than in the opening games, but still notched up 1-3 and set up a Cathal Bambury point with a sweet kick-pass. He could also have assisted a goal had Flaherty not been denied by an excellent Kelly save.
KEY MOMENT
Undoubtedly the moment in which Geaney found the net from an excellent Matthew Flaherty ball. Legion would obviously have pointed to Geaney as Dingle’s greatest threat beforehand, but Flaherty and Geaney combined to strike when Dingle managed to isolate the big man from Legion’s defensive efforts.
TALKING POINT
More gossip existed before the game than during or afterwards. The talk beforehand was made up of concerns in Dingle that their poor recent record against Legion might continue and the potential return of one James O’Donoghue. As it turned out, neither materialised. The talking point for Dingle now is how they’ll go about taking down one of the country’s strongest clubs.
