Unbeaten St Marys leave Ardfert bottom

-

St Marys 2-9 Ardfert 0-6

ALTHOUGH the group was already decided the previous week, St Marys needed the aid of the breeze in the second period to ensure they finished with a 100% record in the Round Robin after trailing on home turf by 0-6 to 0-3 at half-time.

The fallout from the incidents which marred their defeat to John Mitchels in their first game didn’t appear to be unduly affecting Ardfert in the first period as Jordan Brick, Brandon Barrett, Bobby O’Regan and David Griffin helped them to their three point advantage.

The St Brendans side couldn’t cope with the breeze in the second period however in failing to get a further score. Bryan Sheehan and Daniel Daly had the game level before the latter finished off a great sweeping move for the South Kerry side’s first goal as substitute Jack Daly scored their second goal in a nine point win.

How St Marys will approach their County League fixture with Legion this weekend with the semi-final against Glenflesk the following weekend in mind will be interesting to observe.

Ardfert will hope for something similar in their first half performance when they play Gneeveguilla in the first round of the relegation play-offs.

Dromid Pearses 1-22 John Mitchels 1-8

SECOND place in this group was secured for last year’s Premier Junior winners after a pretty impressive total of 1-22 was registered on home turf with 0-16 of that total coming in the second period. Niall O’Shea scored Dromid’s goal in the opening five minutes but Niall Sheehy’s accuracy was keeping Mitchels in it in drawing level at 1-6 apiece at the break.

The Tralee side could only register a further two points in the second period however as Niall O’Connor and Aidan Shine O’Sullivan impressed at midfield for the hosts. Chris Farley, Micheal Sheehan, Gearóid and Graham O’Sullivan along with Dilan O’Donoghue were amongst the Dromid scorers.

Dromid face Intermediate semi-finalists Kilcummin in the County League this weekend, while Mitchels are headed to the south of the county for County League action against Templenoe.
