IFA NEWS

Pat O Shea Kerry IFA Chairperson of the Hill Committee has received a number of calls in the last week about dogs worrying sheep and in two cases where sheep have been killed. Mr. O Shea is now advising farmers of their right to shoot dogs that are found worrying sheep .

Mr O Shea says there are far too many dog owners not taking the responsibility that goes with owning a pet as serious as they ought to. There are between 300 to 400 reported attacks in Ireland each year with losses of upwards of 4000 sheep.

Farmer’s take seriously the health and wellbeing of their flock and as much as they dislike shooting dogs they will do so. So please be a responsible dog owner and insure that your pet is under your control at all times day and night.
