Students capture ‘Picture
It’s no surprise that Kerry is one of the most camera-friendly counties in Ireland. But while Kerry’s rich landscape is to be admired, so too is the trials and tribulations of everyday life which the following pages will no doubt confirm.
This year’s Go Kerry ‘Picture Perfect’ competition, in association with The Kerryman, is delighted to present a platform on which so many young and aspiring photographers can showcase their excellent work. The 2018 competition was broadened to include more pupils with pictures from 1st to 6th years, including Transition Year students. A winner from each category will receive a Mayoral Civic Reception, plus prizes. There will be a judge’s selection as well as a public vote through social media.
Sifting through the many photos submitted is an enjoyable one to say the least and Grace O’Donnell, Manager of Go Kerry said they’re again delighted with the overall response which is testament to the depth of talent and ‘eye for a quality photo’ that exists in the county.
“As ever the range of photos is impressive and each one, in its own way, reflects Kerry’s unique story. The collage is not only a reminder of Kerry’s beauty, but also an expression of the appreciation young people have for their county,” said Grace.
The exhibition takes place in Kerry County Library from Monday, May 14th to Saturday 26th, while the official launch is on Tuesday, May 15th when the Mayor of Kerry, Cllr John Sheahan, performs the opening address.
Professional photographer Dominic Walsh is also very impressed with this year’s photos. “It’s a fantastic assortment of photography that captures many aspects of the county. Each one represents a unique aspect of photography. Being able to spot a good quality photo is important and this competition does just that,” Dominic said.
Sales & Advertising Manager with The Kerryman, Siobhán Murphy, described the photos as ‘fantastic and richly talented’. “Once again we’re delighted to have this oppertunity to support
